Google Earth Available for Android

Nexus One, which runs Android 2.1 and Motorola Milestone known as Droid, which runs on Android 2.0.1 has become an august platform to illustrate the rich and highly technical features of Google Earth. Nexus One carries a lot of performance in a slender package.

After a lot of touches and experiments, the app is ready with the bouncing features for Android. This is the fastest mobile version of Google Earth yet, with a smooth frame and a beautiful 800 x 480 screen.
With the release of Google Earth for Android, Google has also introduced the Roads layer, a very prominent feature of the desktop version of Google Earth. Thus, giving you a better sense of where you are with road labels drawn on top of the satellite imagery.

In addition, Google has taken advantage of the integrated voice recognition potentialities of the Android platform to support the best Google Earth experience yet -- a pocket globe that responds to your every command. Try speaking "Eiffel tower" or "best burrito Mission district of San Francisco." Maybe you're trying to find some nice lodging for an upcoming getaway to Lake Tahoe. Just say "romantic getaway Lake Tahoe."

With Google Earth for Android, the app has brought together the convenience of Google Search by voice with the power of Google Local Search to make it easier than ever to navigate the globe and find whatever you are looking for.

As with other versions of Google Earth, the users can also browse photos, places, and local businesses, whether it is in your local community or on the far side of the globe. Click on an icon to see photos, videos, and read about prominent places in the world. You can easily customize your version of Google Earth to display the layers that most interest you.

In addition to Nexus One, Google Earth will be available in Android Market on most devices that have Android 2.1 or later versions. So as devices such as Droid get updated to Android 2.1, others will also be able to fly to the far reaches of the globe with a swipe of their finger.

Dell Android tablet hitting CES 2010

Dell is to launch an Android-based tablet device,possibly by 2010 in the market.

The new model, which will go up against the currently available Archos Internet Tablet and recently announced JooJoo (formerly the CrunchPad), will allow users to surf the Web from a handheld device bigger than a touchscreen smartphone, but smaller than a standard netbook.

Details so far are thin on the ground, but our multiple "black ops sources" tell us that it will feature a 5-inch screen, run the Android OS and be coming to the UK in the new year, with a more than likely announcement expected at CES 2010 in Las Vegas.

Dell is of course staying quiet on this, but did give more than the standard no comment when asked for more details about tablet:

"Dell continually develops and tests new products that extend the mobile experience. We have not made any product announcements and do not comment on speculation, rumour, or unannounced products".

ARCHOS 5 Android Tablet Launched

The ARCHOS 5 Android Tablet has finally launched. We at Android Central have been expecting the ARCHOS 5 to release for months now and true to their word, September 15th was their date. Internet Media "Android Tablet" On September 15

Archos has announced that a 5-inch Internet media tablet loaded with Android will be unveiled on September 15th, According to The Inquirer. The tablet will have an HDMI out and comes with natively embedded OpenGL libraries. Archos has also announced its AppsLib application store for advanced Android devices targeted at super high-end non-smartphone devices. Archos has clearly framed its objectives by stating that :

By High-End devices, we mean devices that are not only smartphones, but all kind of tablets, PDA, PNDs or picture-frames. Devices that will tomorrow provide the same kind of experience than a PC, mobility added.

AppsLib is a co-venture with ARCHOS. Our target is to be available on a large variety of device, from a lot of manufacturer. But we believe ARCHOS has got what it takes to become the future of Android devices.

However, the development guidelines describe just a single, 5-inch 800x480 pixel device with accelerometer, OpenGL 3D graphics support, and HDMI output pushing an oddball 1160x652 pixel resolution to your TV. Still there is room for other speculations like ; 500GB storage, 10-mm thickness, 7-hours of battery when playing video, voice and HSUPA data radio, and OMAP3440 processor -- unexpectedly announced (by TI!) for the tablet way back in February to be in place. The device has all the makings of a successful piece of hardware.

With this challenging endeavor, it would be worth watching whether or not the ARCHOS Android Internet Tablet and AppsLib will be successful in the already hot smartphone market. It will be interesting to watch the developing part with completely different implications.
